Physical characteristics and technical requirements

The daguerreotype camera consisted of two wooden boxes that slid one inside the other for focusing, a slot for the copper plate at the back, and at the front a fixed lens, made of glass and brass. Initially, the aperture of the optic (specifically created for photographic purposes by the French optician Charles Chevalier) was between f/11 and f/16, and the focal length was 360mm.
